Annie explains what's at stake

& why we need to act now.

WHY THIS FILM MATTERS

For every legend you know, there are dozens of people who made it possible. The publicists, the managers, the people who fought battles and built careers—all while remaining invisible.

Annie Wright is one of those people - but it is time to hear her story!

She was instrumental when:

  • ABBA conquered Australia (credited with helping break them)

  • David Bowie and Lou Reed shaped their public personas (both refused media without her)

  • Australian music invaded USA (she opened Mushroom Records USA)

  • Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, and dozens of film legends needed a tough chick who could handle them! [readmore]

She spent over 40 years behind the biggest names in music and film. She never thought people would find her story interesting. She was wrong. When people read her stories in her memoir the response was overwhelming. They all told her: This needs to be a film!

Now, after a lifetime of amplifying others, it's time to hear her voice.
But we're facing a critical deadline.

Major personal developments mean we must film Stage 1 of the project this December and January in the USA. Major streaming platforms are interested in this film but they need to see an updated Concept Reel immediately. This is the crucial moment for securing major distribution.

This is the window that determines whether Annie's story gets told—or lost forever.

See why rock legends and industry titans are backing this film:

SYNOPSIS

Diary of a Rock’n’roll Girl” is a juicy, fast-paced documentary that dives into the wild, witty, and sometimes heartbreaking journey of Annie Wright. We meet her as a wide-eyed 20-year-old plunging headfirst into the male-dominated, ego-fuelled music and film industry of the 1970s & 80’s, and we travel with her all the way into this century.

[readmore]

The series blends humour and heart showcasing Annie’s resilience and savvy as she navigates the chaotic backstage world of rock legends, iconic filmmaker, and larger than life personalities. Each episode paints a vivid picture of the friendships, the backstage antics, and the personal triumphs and struggles that define her unique path.

It's a story of breaking barriers, finding one’s voice, and ultimately thriving in an industry that never quite saw her coming.

From backstage breakdowns to red carpet chaos, Annie navigates rock gods, rising stars, and total trainwrecks with charm, grit, and a killer wardrobe. All the while, she’s scribbling down her unfiltered thoughts in a diary that reads like a wild blend of Bridget Jones meets Almost Famous.

Based on the true memoirs of real-life publicist and promoter Annie Wright, this is a behind-the-scenes rollercoaster that races from vinyl to TikTok exploring fame, failure, finding your voice, and that one mysterious knight who just might not even exist – or does he?

It’s sex, drugs, PR nightmares, and one woman’s lifelong search for spiritual connection and true love – all while championing AUSSIE SONGBIRDS over the last 6 decades.

Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Will backers get to see the film?

A: Yes! All backers receive:

-Digital download access when the film is released

-Invitation to virtual premiere screening

-Behind-the-scenes production updates throughout filming

-Name in the credits (optional)

Higher tier backers also receive physical premiere invitations, producer credits, and exclusive content packages.

Why is timing so critical?

A: Major personal developments mean we must film this December and January in the USA and Europe—this is our only window. Major streaming platforms have expressed strong interest, but they need to see an updated Concept Reel immediately to greenlight distribution. The artists we need to interview have aligned their schedules for this specific window. If we miss this opportunity, we risk losing:

-The streaming platform interest that's driving this project forward

-Artist availability (many are touring or committed to other projects after January)

-The momentum from Annie's memoir release

-Our chance to capture these stories while everyone is ready and willing

This is the window that determines whether Annie's story gets told—or lost forever.

What happens if you don't reach your full $500,000 goal?

A: Every dollar raised goes directly into production. If we don't reach the full goal, we'll scale the project accordingly— potentially filming fewer locations or shortening the production schedule.

However, we've set the $500K goal as the minimum needed to:

-Complete the essential USA and Europe shoots

-Create the Concept Reel streaming platforms require

-License critical archival footage

-Deliver a film worthy of Annie's story

We're committed to making this film regardless, but reaching our full goal ensures we can tell the complete story without compromise.

Is this tax-deductible?

A: Yes, if you donate through Documentary Australia Foundation (Option 2). Australian taxpayers receive 100% tax deductibility. However, tax-deductible donations cannot include benefits or screen credits in return—this is Australian tax law.

If you want perks or screen credits, use Option 1 (Regular Donation with Perks), which is not tax-deductible.

When will the fi lm be released?

A: Our timeline:

-Dec 2025 - Jan 2026:

Principal photography (USA, Europe, Australia)

-Feb - Aug 2026:

Post-production (editing, sound, color, VFX)

-Sept - Dec 2026:

Festival submission circuit

-Late 2026 / Early 2027:

Theatrical premiere and streaming release

All backers will receive regular production updates and premiere invitations.

Can I donate if I'm not in Australia?

A: Absolutely! International supporters can use either:

-Option 1:

Regular donation pathway (works for any country)

-Option 2:

Direct deposit with international transfer

Tax deductibility through Documentary Australia is only available for Australian taxpayers, but we welcome support from anywhere in the world.

ABOUT PRODUCTION

Who is making this film?

A: Annie Wright — Producer & Subject Annie Wright's extensive background in the music and film industry began over 45 years ago with RCA Records in 1974. She worked her way up from secretary to become one of Australia's first female music executives, handling campaigns for ABBA, David Bowie, Lou Reed, John Denver, Crosby Stills & Nash, Renee Geyer, Marcia Hines, and dozens more.

In 1982, she was sent to Los Angeles to establish Oz Records for Michael Gudinski's Mushroom Records during the "Aussie Music Invasion." She later transitioned to film as a unit publicist, working on over 30 films with directors like Francis Coppola and George Lucas, and actors including Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, Russell Crowe, Greta Scacchi, and Bryan Brown.

Annie is credited with helping break ABBA in Australia and was featured in the ABC documentary "Bang A Boomerang." Even after Lou Reed left RCA Records, he refused to speak to any media unless Annie was present. ABBA invited her to holiday with them in Sweden, Perry Como threw her a surprise party in Las Vegas, and John Denver sent his Lear jet to bring her to Lake Tahoe.

In 2013, Annie founded "Aussies Against Fracking" and successfully mobilized Australia's entertainment industry to fight coal seam gas extraction. She later entered politics, serving seven years with the Christian Democratic Party and producing her first documentary "Fred Nile: Love Him or Loathe Him" in 2018. In 2024, Annie faced breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. Throughout it all, she continued championing artists and preserving music history. Now, with her memoir complete, she's ready to tell her own story on film. Danny Lachevre — Director, Fan-Force Films Danny Lachevre specializes in music documentaries and compelling stories about artists and the industry that shapes them. Fan-Force Films brings decades of experience in visual storytelling and has a proven track record of delivering high-quality documentary content.

What exactly will you be filming in December and January?

A: The December/January window is critical for capturing:

USA Production (2 weeks):

-Major artist interviews with contemporary voices influenced by Annie's work

-Location filming in Los Angeles (Mushroom/Oz Records history, Hollywood era)

-Key locations from Annie's time in the music and film industries

-Archival research at music industry archives

Europe Production:

-International perspectives on Annie's impact

-Additional artist interviews

-Location filming relevant to Annie's career

Australia Production:

-Local artist interviews (Marcia Hines, Kate Ceberano, Tina Arena, etc.)

-Sydney music scene historical locations (RCA Records, concert venues)

-Contemporary interviews with industry figures

Concept Reel Production:

-The streamlined highlight package streaming platforms need to greenlight distribution

-This is the single most important deliverable for securing our distribution deal

This footage cannot be captured later due to artist availability, location access, and the streaming platform timeline. Missing this window means missing our chance.

What major artists are attached?

A: We have confirmed commitments from major Australian and international artists:

Supporting This Film:

George Thorogood • Brian Cadd • Glenn A. Baker AM • Michael Chugg • Kate Ceberano •Marcia Hines • Russell Morris • Greta Scacchi • Richard Wilkins • Vika & Linda Bull • Little Pattie • Leo Sayer • Dinah Lee • Kevin Borich

Contemporary Artists Participating:

Marcia Hines • Tina Arena • Kate Ceberano • Kasey Chambers • Courtney Barnett • Deborah Conway • Little Pattie • Deni Hines • Casey Burgess • Vika & Linda Bull • Amy Shark

Plus archival footage and stories featuring:

David Bowie • Lou Reed • ABBA • John Denver • George Thorogood •Renee Geyer • Mickey Rourke • Robert De Niro • Jack Thompson • Russell Crowe • Bryan Brown • Greta Scacchi • and many more

These aren't just endorsements—these are the people who worked with Annie, who watched her shape careers, who know firsthand what she achieved. And they're demanding her story be told.

Why do you need to film NOW? What if we wait until later?

A: We Have Months, Not Years

The streaming platforms are watching. The artists are ready. The stories are waiting to be told.

We just need to complete filming before the window closes.

Here's what we lose if we don't film in December/January:

Streaming Platform Interest:

Major platforms need to see an updated Concept Reel NOW to move forward with distribution discussions. The entertainment industry moves fast—interest today doesn't mean interest in six months.

Artist Availability:

We've coordinated schedules with over a dozen major artists for this specific window. Many are touring internationally or committed to other projects after January. Getting this alignment again would take another year minimum.

Momentum from Annie's Memoir:

Her book has created buzz and interest right now. Striking while the story is fresh is critical for both funding and distribution.

Personal Developments:

Major life changes mean this is THE window for Annie to dedicate fully to this project.

Age and Health:

Many of the people in Annie's story are aging. Several have already passed. Every month we wait increases the risk of losing voices that can never be replaced.

This isn't manufactured urgency—this is the reality of documentary film making. Stories have windows, and this is ours. Help us capture Annie's story while we still can.
